Toyota Tundra: Not Just Any Full-Size Truck for the Tough Frederick, CO Tows and Hauls

In fact, in double cab and CrewMax configurations, with a trim gamut spanning base SR and SR5 to Limited and Platinum, it's the half-ton pickup alternative more truckers in our neck of the northern Colorado woods prefer. What makes this ruggedly capable beast one to stand the test of time? Other than a Toyota tradition of craftsmanship spanning nearly two decades, plenty.

One, a new Tundra offers a choice of three powerhouse engines, and the ratings to prove it. Go with a standard 4.6-liter i-FORCE V8, and you can look forward to a hard-charging 310 horsepower with the turning and pulling force of 327 pound-feet of torque. Step up to a 5.7-liter i-FORCE V8 draft-horse, and that churn jumps to 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet. But if you're looking for the ability to use more than one type of gas, choose an optional 5.7-liter i-FORCE V8 that's E85 Flex Fuel-capable. These mean support for a payload of up to 1,730 pounds as well as the capacity to tow up to 10,200, and reliably, thanks to available trailer sway control. That's enough for anything from a pop-up tent, pair of dirt bikes or snowmobiles, or a light towable RV to a powerboat, couple of personal watercraft, or even a second car.

Two, like any Toyota truck, it's a pleasure to handle. Tundra builds in a smooth six-speed electronically controlled auto transmission, offers an available TOW/HAUL Mode to ease taking along a trailerful, and features rear-wheel drive (RWD) standard, with an automatic limited-slip differential to optimize torque when turning. Plus, power to all four wheels comes available as you need it, in the form of a 4WDemand part-time four-wheel drive system incorporating an electronically controlled transfer case and Active Traction Control (A-TRAC). Factor in an independent coil-spring high-mounted double-wishbone front suspension, a live axle, and a trapezoidal multi-leaf rear suspension, and you can count on the ride to remain just as agile as it is capable.

Thirdly, it's accommodating. Choose from durable vinyl, comfortable fabric, or sumptuous leather or perforated leather seating options, in either bucket or bench format. You can get it optionally heated and ventilated up front, too, and when you bring available dual-zone climate control into the mix, you'll find it a breeze to create a custom cabin environment for the drive.

Let's not forget: it's technologically savvy, ideal for a mobile office. A choice of four Entune infotainment systems, appearing in 6.1- and 7-inch variants, features perks from advanced voice recognition for ease of use to available navigation for directional assistance. There's even premium JBL audio available to make your ride a pleasure cruise with a soundtrack, not to mention 12V auxiliary power outlets for a variety of electronics and other equipment -- one in the rear and two in front.

Did we mention Tundra is exceedingly safe? It's loaded with advanced features that provide peace of mind, from a standard Star Safety System to standard Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) driver-assistance tech. With an optional Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert in the works, it's a snap to stay in your lane, on course, abreast of other vehicles, and clear of potential collisions, all with intelligent feedback. You can even look forward to an available front and rear parking assist sonar to simplify slipping into that sweet spot at your destination.

Last but not least, truck aficionados: it's customizable. That's to suit both the job site and your off-road excursion. Pick up a model with an available TRD Sport Package or TRD Off-Road Package, or choose from a range of optional genuine Toyota accessories to enhance your ride's utility or just plain trick it out.
